Our December Meeting Town Hall Event, " Families of Our Heroes Forum" was a huge success, well attended and many of our members signed up to be on various committees. The goal of the panel forum was to address the daily challenges and issues unique to our military, veterans and their families, especially the lack of behavioral health services. Many representatives of the behavioral health treatment and prevention community were invited and supported the event.
The forum panel consisted of MAJ Ebony Carter, LAARNG, Treva Lynn Walters, NAS Belle Chasse, and Chaila Williams, Accenture Federal Services, who all discussed in length family obstacles such as unemployment, drug and alcohol related issues, domestic violence, and issues seen within the school system related to the needs of military children. The forum also included a question and answer session which allowed audience participation and discussion on several of the topics presented.
In attendance from Washington, D.C., was the CADCA VetCorps Project Manager, Lauren Lloyd. Also in attendance were members of the Jefferson Parish Veterans Treatment Court, Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority, River Oaks Hospital, Metropolitan Human Services District, United Way, Addiction recovery Resources of New Orleans, Southeast LA Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, Tri-Care Southeast Regional and LA Health Cooperative.
Our next Military Committee Meeting in January will address unemployment challenges prevalent among our National Guard and Reserve military members, veterans and their families. Please contact JPACC's VetCorps Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or (504)361-2515 for more information.
